Ultrasonography

Ultra-sound examination

Ultra-sound examination is currently the basic, and possibly also the most common visualization diagnostic method. It has many advantages, particularly the fact that it has no adverse impact on the examined organism - unlike radiation, and it does not require administering contrast medium like x-ray methods. Also, diagnostic devices are far less expensive than those for computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance (MR). In addition it is possible to carry out examination directly on patient's bed. Examination can be documented by capturing images on special paper or the entire examination on a video-tape.

Ultra-sound can be used also without preparation, but the results are much better if the examined person has not eaten for at least 6 hours prior to the examination.

The most common ultra-sound examinations focus on liver, pancreas, spleen, reins, bladder, lacteal gland. Ultra-sound can also be used for examination of heart or circulatory system. Ultra-sound examination is painless and there have been no documented adverse effects on the human organism. Therefore it can be also used for examination of pregnant women.
